Traffic links into the Baltic Sea Region

Estonias major airport is Tallinn Airport, other airports offering international flights into the Baltic Sea Region are Kuressaare Airport and Pärnu Airport. Please look up the airport links for their current connections into the BSR:

There are some ferry-connections from Estonia into the Baltic Sea Region, mainly to Sweden and Finland. A current overview of the ferry lines can be found here

Most ferries leave at the Port of Tallin. Port of Tallinn uses four different terminals – the longest distance is around 1km (between terminal A and terminal D).

There is only one international train line leaving Estonia: From Tallinn to Russia, Moscow (Leningradski Vakzal/Station). It travels on daily basis and the journey lasts about 15 hours.

Trains to the Latvian capital Riga set from Valga in southern Estonia three times a day. The trip takes three hours.

In addition, it is also possible to rent the “Imperial Wagon”. It includes a private lounge area, three sleeping compartments (one with a double bed); private around-the-clock room service and dinners served in style. For further information see Tallinn-Moscow train.

Helsinki (Finland) is just 80 km from Tallinn and during summer periods, car ferries sail every two hours.

Stockholm (Sweden) is 380 km from Tallinn and car ferries sail between Tallinn and Stockholm once a day.

Riga (Latvia) is 350 km from Tallinn – and you can take the Via Baltica road, which is a part from E67 Highway. Via Baltica also runs through Lithuania, Vilnius (530km from Tallinn). You can cross the border at Ikla border crossing point or drive through the city of Valga/Valka, if you prefer the slightly longer route or enjoying the scenery of rural Southern Estonia.

Moscow (Russia) is 1000 km from Tallinn and St. Petersburg (Russia) is around 350 km from Tallinn – the easiest is to drive through the border crossing point in Narva/Ivangorod or Luhamaa/Shumilino or Koidula/Konichennaja Gora. Don’t forget: you will need a visa to enter Russia.
