The economic dimension of travel and tourism

GDP: DIRECT CONTRIBUTION
The direct contribution of Travel & Tourism to GDP was BYR 4,878.3 bn (2.0% of total GDP) in 2011, and is forecast to fall by 0.8% in 2012, and to rise by 3.1% pa, from 2012-2022, to BYR 6,572.5 bn in 2022 (in constant 2011 prices).

GDP: TOTAL CONTRIBUTION
The total contribution of Travel & Tourism to GDP was BYR 11,238.8 bn (4.5% of GDP) in 2011, and is forecast to fall by 3.6% in 2012, and to rise by 2.8% pa to BYR 14,329.4 bn in 2022.

EMPLOYMENT: DIRECT CONTRIBUTION
In 2011 Travel & Tourism directly supported 86,000 jobs (1.8% of total employment). This is expected to fall by 3.1% in 2012 and fall by 0.6% pa to 79,000 jobs (1.8% of total employment) in 2022.

EMPLOYMENT: TOTAL CONTRIBUTION
In 2011, the total contribution of Travel & Tourism to employment, including jobs indirectly supported by the industry, was 4.1% of total employment (197,500 jobs). This is expected to fall by 5.7% in 2012 to 186,000 jobs and fall by 0.9% pa to 170,000 jobs in 2022 (3.9% of total).

VISITOR EXPORTS
Visitor exports generated BYR 3,235.7 bn (1.6% of total exports) in 2011. This is forecast to fall by 6.3% in 2012, and fall by 0.2% pa, from 2012-2022, to BYR 2,975.7 bn in 2022 (1.4% of total).

INVESTMENT Travel & Tourism investment in 2011 was BYR 2,185.9 bn, or 2.3% of total investment. It should fall by 12.3% in 2012, and fall by 2.7% pa over the next ten years to BYR 1,457.5 bn in 2022 (1.4% of total).

The only natural World Heritage Site in Belarus is Belovezhskaya Pushcha/Białowieża Forest.
